Introduction

The Center for Heterogeneous Catalyst Technology of Iran University of Science and Technology is one of the most specialized and advanced catalyst laboratories at the university level in the country. Leveraging over two decades of experience from experienced specialists and utilizing the scientific and technical capabilities of its young workforce, this laboratory is engaged in providing services in the areas of manufacturing and evaluation of various catalysts, as well as studying and consulting on various refinery, petrochemical, and chemical processes. This center has been established to carry out research projects as part of master’s and doctoral projects for students in the fields of engineering, chemical reactions, and the production of nano materials and catalysts. The goal is to conduct fundamental and applied research to solve some of the scientific, fundamental, and operational problems of these industries. On the other hand, considering the strong dependence of the refining, petrochemical, steel, and chemical industries on catalysts, as well as the impossibility of transferring technical knowledge of catalyst production from foreign companies and the high cost of research and development in domestic manufacturing companies, and the inclination to outsource part of the activities, the University of Science and Technology of Iran established The Center for Heterogeneous Catalyst Technology in 1398 (2019).

Research Fields

  • Construction and Optimization of Heterogeneous Catalysts
  • Formulating technical knowledge for the production of various catalysts in refinery and petrochemical processes, including:

– Light hydrocarbon reforming
– Reforming various alcohols and acids
– Hydrogen purification
– Conversion of light hydrocarbons to aromatics
– Oxidative desulfurization of liquid hydrocarbon fuels
– Conversion of xylenes to paraxylene (in collaboration with Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company)
– Removal of organic pollutants from water
– Catalytic hydrogenation of paraffinic compounds
– Catalytic combustion of methane and carbon monoxide
– Thermocatalytic decomposition of methane
– Hydrolysis of various compounds for hydrogen production

  • Presentation and investigation of kinetic models for multiphase reactions.
  • Optimization of operational conditions for multiple reactions.
  • Fluid engineering and the use of fluidized bed reactors in gas-solid reactions.
  • Utilization of plasma reactors for hydrogen production.
